As part of the Science department, Biology occupies Labs 4, 6, 7 and 10 of the 10 fully equipped science labs at James Young High School. 

In S1 and S2, Biology is taught as part of the 5-14 Curriculum within the science department.  There are 6 assessments in total which determine the route that pupils will follow from S3. 

In S3/S4 the courses offered are Intermediate 1 and Standard Grade Biology. 

Currently in S5 we offer Intermediate 1, 2, Higher Biology and Higher Human Biology.  S6 pupils can opt to study Intermediate 1, 2, Higher Biology, Higher Human Biology or Advanced Higher Biology.  The possible routes are shown below
