The Modern Languages Department offers a wide range of courses in French, German and Spanish.

Pupils at the James Young High School study a modern language from S1 to S4.  In addition, courses in a second modern language are offered in both S3 and S5.

These courses include:

·                    Access 3

·                    Intermediate 1

·                    Intermediate 2

·                    Standard Grade (Foundation, General and Credit levels)

·                    Higher

·                    Advanced Higher

The department works closely with all four feeder primary schools where a modern language is studied in P6 and P7 (and, in some cases, as early as P4) to ensure a smooth transition.  In addition, for pupils who have not attended one of the feeder primaries, fast-track beginners’ classes in S1 are available to these pupils to ensure that they receive the same language input.
