Cheap homemade USB Type A breakouts

Ever needed a quick way to gain access to USB on a breadboard?

For the USB Type A male, I have quite a few broken cords, so I just chopped off the end and soldered it to a header (I quite like the Mill-Max 800 series). You must use heat shrink, otherwise the wires will experience metal fatigue at the solder joint.

For the USB Type A female, I cut a section of stripboard 4 wide. I then soldered on a right angle header and the socket. I then cut the strips past the socket’s pins and folded the legs over and soldered them for a solid connection.
